In the face of an ongoing debate about the role of diverse voices in education, media, and the art we consume, a reinvestment in the arts as a means of creating change and shifting a divisive culture becomes critical. Artists and cultural workers of color are needed now more than ever before, while books by Black and brown authors are banned from school libraries, LGBTQ+ youth and adults are denied health care and employment, and lawmakers suppress the real stories of slavery and racial inequality from school curriculums. From the murals of Diego Rivera to the socially conscious lyrics of early hip hop, artists of color have never shied away from using their art to speak Truth To Power about the full spectrum of their lived experiences.

Through the creation of community-based public art and opportunities for artists to receive more training and resources, Transformation Arts is committed to supporting artists and creatives of color who use their art to create change; ultimately building a broad-based coalition of Black and Brown people alongside other like-minded folks.
