We build trust within our communities through the development of community-based art.  Engaging youth in public art and social justice creates safe spaces and a pipeline of artists committed to transforming their communities through creativity.

We want artists and members of the community who benefit from our collaborations to feel empowered in their sense of ownership and value to their neighborhoods and streets. We already have power, and it is up to us to work together to create the change in our society we want to see.

Transformation Arts was founded on the belief that creativity is one key to transforming our communities; not just to support public art projects but also to advocate for solutions to social and economic inequities that negatively impact our communities in Greater Los Angeles. Creativity is what fuels our passion for community art and social justice.

Many of the systems of oppression and inequity in our society are fueled by a culture that promotes individualism over collective support. Transformation Arts promotes community care within and across cultures with the understanding that we are stronger together than we are apart.

At Transformation Arts, we approach our projects and partnerships with bell hooks’ love ethic: “openly and honestly express care, affection, responsibility, respect, commitment, and trust.” We believe that no movement can win without leading with love. We view community-based art as a responsibility, a commitment, and an opportunity to build trust, care for, celebrate, and build a culture of respect.
