What is Transformation Arts?
Transformation Arts is a name that implies the inherent ability of anyone or anything to change. The definition of society as it currently stands (poorly) is the old phrase about our parents that "they will never change, you just have to accept that." What is it about us that refuses to be any different than we already are? This attitude, amplified over millions of people creates an energetic eddy that ironically stops necessary change, even though that is technically impossible. The modern day lie, or our life as people who just go to work and eat Cheetos, is slowly coming to an end. In the bold new future it will be impossible to carry on these kind of appearances. We must abandon our ego-centric, self-centered American stylized-selfs, and begin the process of starting over in ourselves and with the people around us, even though it is the most difficult task we could ever undertake. The courage to do this, learning as we go with those around us, is a dedication to everybody and everything, to see it all as clearly as we possibly can, for as long as we can.
To affect social change is like becoming a buoy of realization with storms brewing all around us. A person or group can take on the function of the buoy, a force of stabilization and regulation. There are infinite combinations of things to be done, but only through inner and outer stillness can we gain enough ability to even do just one of them. Most of us can not even take a crap without having to do something else at the same time, like reading a book. Now with this image, look at society, not able to finish one thing before the next, constantly distracted. The root cause of things is unseen and we go through patchwork after patchwork without knowing why our results are always the same. Back to the first point, if we keep doing things the same way, why would we expect a different result? There's also the idea that "we are doing better than we were before", but is that a valid excuse?
There is a complete, whole, and unadulterated lineage of practices surrounding Tai Chi, Yoga, Qigong, Acupuncture, Taoism, Confucianism, Buddhism, and Chinese Medicine that provide a complete model of self and social healing. Even though this is true, and proven, it is difficult to grasp. An us vs. them, or winner vs. loser, mentality permeates our core so it is impossible to just say, "Yes, that is a brilliant idea that I personally did not think of!". If we didn't create it, we have a huge problem with it. Or, if its not great at the expense of something else being lesser, we're not interested. To see this concept just look at how the tension between political parties manifest. Just combing through Google.com and the internet at large it is impossible to ignore the evidence base confirming that the above practices, lineages and understandings could cure many, if not all, of our modern dilemmas. Want to know how they could? Because it is our ego underlying them all, and all of them deal with it. Its really that simple, but if we admitted that, it would be a big deal.
A hopeful future where we were all realized, compassionate, intelligent capable people dealing with each other, but not doing too much, or too little, not getting bored and causing wars in small and large scales, dealing with what was in front of us, and leaving be what wasn't. This is the necessary social change we are all getting at. Its impossible to perceive unless you start practicing, and once you practice its impossible to un-see, impossible to forget.
